Multiplying Simple Fractions: Problem 2

Rule 11: To multiply two simple fractions, complete the following steps.

Problem 2: Multiply and reduce the answer.

Answer. Multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators, but leave them in factored form. Then reduce the fraction by factoring the numerator and the denominator and located the fraction within the mix that has a value of 1. See the following steps:

You can check the answer with your calculator. Calculate 1 divided by 2 and 8 divided by 7 and multiply the two answers. Now calculate 4 divided by 7. If the two answers are the same, you have worked the problem correctly.
