Converting Decimals to Fractions: Example

For this review, we will focus on terminating fractions. Divide the fraction by 1, and then multiply the result by 1 in a form that will remove the decimal.
- Example:
- Convert 0.0253 to fraction.
- Answer:
- The decimal 0.0253 can be written .
Since can be
multiplied by 1 and divided by 1 without changing the value,
0.0253 =
.
Since the numerator 253 and the denominator 10000 do not share common factors, it cannot be reduced.
